Prepare your website enquiry
A clear brief is a better starting point than a list of features.
Bring the important questions together.
A short brief helps explain what your website needs to do without choosing every feature in advance. Use the text worksheet below to organise the conversation and keep a copy for your own records.
Download the website brief ↓This website does not accept enquiries or personal details through an online form. The worksheet is a file you complete on your own device; it is not submitted to this site.
Start with the visitor
Describe who the site is for and what they are trying to achieve. Choose a concrete situation: finding a service, checking practical information or understanding whether an offer is relevant. If there are several audiences, identify which one matters most to the first version of the site.
Explain the main action you want to make easier. You do not need a technical specification at this stage. A clear account of the visitor’s problem is more useful than a long list of fashionable features.
Describe the existing material
List the pages, text and images you already have. Note which materials are current, which need editing and which can be reused. Include any existing page addresses that should remain accessible, especially if people already link to them.
Keep permissions and provenance with your own records. The brief can identify who supplied an image or who is responsible for a service description without including private contracts or personal identification documents.
Identify the regular changes
Write down the content you expect to update: practical details, service descriptions, photos or articles. Explain who is likely to make those changes and whether they already use a content editor. Distinguish those ordinary updates from a new booking process or account system, which needs its own scope.
If the website depends on another service, record its name and the role it plays. Do not put passwords, recovery codes, payment details or customer information into the worksheet. Access arrangements can be handled through the appropriate service separately.
Keep the first version realistic
Describe any deadline or practical constraint and explain what makes it important. Separate the essentials from ideas that can wait. A focused first version is easier to review when every page and feature has a specific purpose.
Before sharing your brief through a contact channel you already use, check that it contains only the information needed for the conversation. Read the privacy information for how this website works, or return to the planning approach if you want to clarify the page structure first.
